Catholic Health Press Release

Mount St. Mary’s Hospital honored first responders throughout Niagara County at its annual EMS recognition dinner, held at Pekin Fire Co. in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of National EMS Week.

Members from the following fire companies received awards for their exceptional expertise and dedication in responding to various emergency calls during 2023: Cambria Volunteer Fire Co., Lewiston Fire Co. No. 1, Lewiston Fire Co. No. 2, Mercy Flight WNY, Niagara County EMS, Pekin Fire Co., Ransomville Fire Co., St. Johnsburg Fire Co., Tri Community Ambulance, Upper Mountain Fire Co. and Youngstown Volunteer Fire Co.

Niagara County EMS was recognized as the Agency of Year for its dedication to the residents of the Niagara County and in support of the Volunteer Fire and Ambulance services to ensure ambulance transport is readily available.

“With EMS in a staffing state of emergency, Niagara County Emergency Services went through a multiyear process to not only create an ambulance division, but obtaining an advanced life support transport certificate of need to help serve residents throughout the county,” said Emily James, Catholic Health’s system manager of emergency and acute neuro services. “They have been extremely busy in just the few short months that they have been in service. Without this asset, lives would be lost.”

Mount St. Mary’s Vice President of Operations Kyle Donovan added. “We are appreciative of the commitment and partnership demonstrated by all of our first responders across the community. These individuals continually go above and beyond the call of duty. On behalf of everyone at Mount St. Mary’s and Lockport Memorial hospitals, and the entire Catholic Health system, we are grateful for their dedication and service throughout the year.”
